[Routine Help] BHA/AHA vs Vitamin C vs Retinol
I am a little confused on which of these products to try first if my goal is to improve volume, texture, and brightness in my skin (especially near my dark circles) and also reduce fine lines and red marks from old breakouts. I have very dry skin so I am trying to avoid anything harsh.

Based on your main skin concerns, I think you'd benefit from implementing all those products in your routine, you just have to choose alternate days/nights and go slowly. For example, you should try to use a Vitamin C serum on most days to benefit from its antioxidant properties but you don't need to use an AHA/BHA treatment more than 2 or 3 times a week. Similarly, when just starting retinol, it's advisable to use it about 3 times per week to allow your skin to build up tolerance and reduce irritation. With a schedule like that, you don't need to choose which one to go first and you'll know that things like retinol are kept strictly to the nighttime and don't have to conflict with Vitamin C or the chemical exfoliants.

Thanks for the reply! I'm worried about my skin drying out if I add them all. I also use niacinamide every morning, would that conflict with anything?

I use them all.
Vitamin C every night. (A lot of people use it in the morning though.) And I alternate AHA/BHA with retinol.
On AHA/BHA nights, I will wait 30 minutes and then apply my vitamin C afterwards.
On retinol nights, I apply vitamin C first and then the retinol 30 minutes later.

Do you experience any drying with all those actives?

When you apply the vitamin c 30 mins afterwards, when do you apply moisturiser?
so something like : tonor>aha/bha>moisturiser>wait 30mins>vitamin c or tonor>aha/bha>wait 30mins>vitamin c>moisturiser?
im seeing alot conflicting articles about using vitc with acids&niamicide. its all quite confusing @-@

I would try very gentle products if your skin is dry. For example for retinol, you might want it in a cream form for the added moisturizer benefits. I would be very careful with aha/bha and lean towards very low percentages or skipping it all together

I do Vit C in the morning, underneath my sunscreen.
I alternate between retinol, AHA and niacinamide.

I never knew that you could alternate them like that, they're still effective using them only twice a week? Which one do you think has given the most benefit?
